Several petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh had been caught recently using electronic chips and remote controls to dispense a lower quantity of petrol and diesel to consumers.
"The petrol pumps across Madhya Pradesh would be inspected to ensure that fuel dispensing machines are providing the right amount of diesel/petrol to the consumers," a public relations department official said today.
He said the decision was taken to safeguard the interests of the consumers following the irregularities found at petrol pumps in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh recently.
A joint team of Food department, Weight and Measures department and representatives of oil companies would conduct this drive, he added.
However, the official did not inform when this drive would be launched.
