City MP Vilas Muttemwar today demanded that the Centre should increase its share from 20 per cent to 40 per cent in the Nagpur Metro Rail project which was being cleared by Maharashtra Government recently.
He raised the issue under rule 377 in the Lok Sabha which could not transact any business, Muttemwar, while welcoming the state government's decision, said as per the scheme, the Centre and the state will share 20 per cent cost each and 50 per cent will be raised through market. Remaining five per cent will be contributed by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).
Muttemwar said the Centre should increase its share by 20 per cent to make it 40 per cent since the project is in a non-metro city.
Nagpur is one of the important cities in the country which is developing fast industrially. Unfortunately, the transport network has not increased to the same extent to meet the increasing requirements of this city having a population of over 40 lakhs, he said.
Keeping these aspects in view and with the objectives of providing fast, safe and efficient transport system Maharashtra government has approved the proposal of providing Metro Rail facility in Nagpur at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore and submitted the same to the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
