Protesting the denial of party ticket to his supporter for the forthcoming local body polls in Madhya Pradesh, state Congress Committee's vice president Manak Agrawal has resigned from his post.
Agrawal was demanding ticket for his supporter Pramila Goyal for Itarsi Nagar Palika's chairmanship, but it was given at the last moment to Madhvi Mishra, a loyalist of former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri and All India Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza.
"I resigned from the post of state unit's vice president yesterday as the party leadership has not kept its promise on the issue of giving ticket," Agrawal told PTI today.
Agrawal said he has sent his resignation letter to state Congress unit president Arun Yadav.
However, Congress state unit's chief spokesman K K Mishra said the party has not yet received any resignation in writing from Agrawal.
Defending the decision of giving ticket to Madhvi Mishra, Oza told PTI that, "Madhvi is the ex-chairperson of the Itarsi Nagar Palika and sitting president of the women's Congress unit in the town. She is definitely a better candidate than the one for whom he (Agrawal) is demanding the ticket."
Agrawal said he will wait till tomorrow, the last day of withdrawal of nomination for the local body polls to be held later this month, to decide his next course of action.
