MSRTC depot manager arrested by the ACB for accepting a bribe

A depot manager of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) at Khopat who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe from a conductor was arrested by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here today, ACB sources said.
Thane ACB DYSP Sanjay Mohite said that arrested depot manager Shivaji Devkar (54) had made the demand of a monthly bribe payment of Rs 2,000 to allot light duty to the conductor who suffers from spondilytis.
He said that the conductor was under medical advice to do light duty due to his ailment.
When he approached the depot manager, the latter agreed to allot him light duty if he paid Rs 2,000 as a monthly bribe, he said.
After due negotiations, it was agreed that an amount of Rs 1,500 would be paid as a monthly bribe, he said.
Allegedly, the depot manager also demanded Rs 5,000 for a "compromise" on his sick leave, he said.
The aggrieved conductor lodged a acomplaint with the Thane unit of the ACB which laid a trap today and caught the depot manager while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 which was the "pending" amount for the last two months, he said.
Offences under Section 7, Section 8, Section 13(1)(d) and Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 have been registered against the depot manager at the local Boisar police station, the ACB official stated.
