The 30-year-old forward netted 13 goals in 23 I-League matches for Mohammedan Sporting which was the second highest tally of goals last season.
"It's going to be really exciting playing here for this club. Mumbai FC has always been a difficult team to beat. I, along with my new teammates, want to help the club move higher up the table. There are so many good players at this club," said the new signee.
"I have always liked playing in Mumbai, it's a beautiful city with enthusiastic people and I look forward to working with (head coach) Khalid Jamil and (manager) Henry Picardo. I am eager to meet my new team-mates.
Josimar comes with a good mix of experience and his previous clubs include Mohammedan SC, Salgaocar and Prayag United in India and Ponte Preta and Clube De Regatas in Brazil.
"Josimar is a fantastic signing for us. He will provide a focal point for all our attacks and I see him scoring a lot of goals for us this season. He is a confident lad," said club's head coach Jamil.
Mumbai FC manager Picardo said, "We all know what Josimar is capable of. We have all seen his exploits at previous clubs. With over 50 goals in just four or five seasons is a brilliant record. Just having his name on the team-sheet strikes fear in the minds of defenders.
