Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde's estranged nephew Dhananjay, who joined NCP last month, today filed papers as the Sharad Pawar-led party's nominee for next month's bypoll to Maharashtra Legislative Council.
The bypoll, scheduled for September 2, is being held to fill the vacancy caused by his resignation as BJP MLC elected by members of the Legislative Assembly.
Dhananjay resigned as a member of the Upper House on July 2 and joined NCP, which is part of the Congress-led ruling coalition in the state.
His term of office would have, in the normal course, ended on July 7, 2016.
The last date of filing nominations is August 23.
