Municipal Councillor arrested for taking bribe

A Councillor of Merta Municipal Council in Nagaur district was today arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 11,700 from a contractor.
Udairaj Nagar, Councillor of Ward 20, had demanded the bribe from contractor Prakash in order to get his pending bills against some construction works passed from the Council, IG of ACB Hawa Singh said.
Following verification of the complaint, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested while accepting the bribe, he said.
Nagar has been arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act, the officer said, adding investigation is underway.
