Nagaland forest officer honoured

Nagaland's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HoFF), M Lokeswara Rao, today received the first Tigerland India Biodiversity Conservation Award.
Legendary Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman handed over the award to Rao, an Indian Forest Service officer, during the Tigerland India Film Festival (TIFF) at Bhopal.
The award carries a memento, a certificate and Rs 25,000 in cash, a release by Nagaland Conservator of Forests (Publicity & Advertisement), Temjenyabang Jamir said.
Tigerland India Film Festival (TIFF) is an initiative to promote wildlife conservation and raise awareness through visual media.
TIFF Director Abhinandan Shukla said the work of Nagaland Forest Department under the leadership of Rao for conservation of Amur Falcon has been acknowledged and appreciated by national and international media.

He said conservation of Amur Falcon by the state forest department in coordination with the authorities of Pangti village has been a great success-story in the field of wildlife conservation.

TIFF acknowledged that the Satellite Tagging of Amurc Falcon, a move that earned laurels from scientific community from the country and abroad as it has enabled the world to trace the migration route of falcons.
Accepting the award, Rao said all credit for the conservation effort of Amur Falcon goes to communities of Doyang area especially Pangti village in Wokha district and to different NGOs and the forest department.
The real heroes in this are the communities who have sacrificed their livelihood for conservation of Amur Falcon, Rao said, adding that he is donating the award money to Pangti village communities.
