Three states neighbouring Gujarat owe Rs 6,100.30 crore to the state government for the implementation of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Project, the Legislative Assembly was told today.
Responding to a written question during Question Hour in the House, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh collectively owe Rs 6,100.30 crore towards the project.
While Rs 4,115.06 crore are due from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra owes Rs 1391.41 crore and Rajasthan Rs 593.83 crore, as on December 2017, as per the reply.
Responding to a sub-question about the steps taken by the state government to recover the pending dues from the three states, all ruled by the BJP, Rupani, who handles Narmada portfolio among others, said request letters were sent to respective governments in the last two years.
Rupani stated the government had also raised this issue in three meetings of the Sardar Sarovar Construction Advisory Committee in the last two years.
