The month long celebrations culminated in a colourful cultural bonanza, which was presided by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, and attended by a number of senior Officers of the Command and all employees of NSRY.
Various events were conducted in the days running up to the anniversary celebrations focusing on social causes, including an organ donation campaign in association with Society For Organ Retrieval and transplant (SORT) wherein 300 employees and their families pledged to donate their organs.
NSRY, the premier ship repair organisation of the Southern Naval Command, was originally established as a modest 'Base Engineering And Electrical Workshop', post World War II in 1945, to maintain the sea worthiness of the ships based at Kochi. Subsequently rechristened as NSRY during 1988, the yard is now headed by Rear Admiral K Ravikiran.
