A non-cognisable offence has been registered against two people for allegedly circulating old pictures of NCP's Maval Lok Sabha candidate Parth Pawar on social media in a bid to defame him, police said Saturday.
The pictures show Pawar partying with some women, an official said.
After NCP functionary Vaishali Nagawade approached Chinchwad police station and complained against Nikhil Devkate-Patil and Sandip Hube for uploading the photographs on a Facebook page, an NC under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC was registered Friday night, the official said.
Pawar, son of former deputy chief minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar, is pitted against the Shiv Sena's sitting MP Shrirang Barne.
Maval will go to polls on April 29.
