Opposition National Conference MLA from Nubra, Deldan Namgyal today said there was need to pay attention to development of his constituency as it was lagging in some sectors when compared to areas close to the border in Pakistan and China.
"China is on my head and Pakistan is on this side (pointing to the right side of his face). Thang, the last village in Nubra before the border, is reeling under darkness while the villages on the other side -- less than 500 metres away -- have been electrified," Namgyal said while raising a supplementary to his question during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly.
The MLA said the house needs to pay attention to the development of his constituency "or we will become a laughing stock".
Replying to the question, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, who holds the power portfolio, said while he would not comment on the responsibility of the previous government, Nubra will not be ignored during the present regime.
"The proposal for extension of 132 KV line from Phyang to Disket in Nubra and creation of 132/33 KV sub-station at Disket has been projected under PMRRP plan with an estimated cost of Rs 114.10 crore," Singh said.
Singh said for electrification of un-electrified areas and villages in Nubra constituency, Rs 19.
38 crore has been proposed under 'Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana' for improvement and upgradation of power infrastructure.
