NCB gets regular Chief after an year

Senior IPS officer R R Bhatnagar has been appointed as the new Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), almost after an year the post got vacant and no regular chief was posted by the government for the central agency.
A latest order issued by the Union Home Ministry, after getting approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the 1983-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre officer will take over as the full-time Chief of the NCB.
The post was being handled in an additional capacity by former Secretary (Internal Security) in the Home Ministry Ashok Prasad after incumbent DG Rajiv Mehta was promoted and posted to his home state Meghalaya as the DGP in February, 2015.

Prasad too retired on January 31, this year.
Bhatnagar is currently serving as the Additional DG of the Central Industrial Security Force at its headquarters here and is expected to take the new charge soon.
He will be at the post till his superannuation in 2018 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the order said.
The NCB is the national agency, under the command of the Union Home Ministry, to implement anti-drug laws and conduct enforcement action against narcotics operators and trade in the country and is mandated to coordinate action of various law enforcement agencies working in this domain.

The post of NCB Chief is an ADG-rank post at the Centre and senior civil service officers from the IPS, IAS and IRS are eligible for it.
