NCSC received 90 cases of false caste certificates in last 3 yrs: Govt

As many as 90 cases related to false caste certificates have been received by the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes (NCSC) in the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla in a written reply said the NCSC was probing the complaints as per the duties assigned to it under Article 338 (5) of the constitution.

The minister was responding to details sought on cases pertaining to people getting employment and other benefits based on fake caste certificates.

In the year 2015-16, as many as 30 such cases were received by the Commission, with Karnataka accounting for 10 cases of false caste certificates, Sampla said.

As many as 38 and 22 cases were received in this regard in 2016-17 and 2017-18, respectively, he said.

Cases related to false certificates in connection with PSUs and banks were also received by the NCSC, the minister informed the House.

In response to another question, Sampla said, according to the information available with the Registrar General of India, there were 4,13,670 beggars, vagrants and others such people in the country, as per the census of 2011.

Out of the total number of beggars, 2,21,673 are males and the rest are females, he added.
