Two NDFB-S extremists on a motorcycle fired at the police at a place under Rangapara police station and a gun battle ensued with both sides exchanging fire, district Superintendent of Police Sanjukta Parasar told PTI.
The ultras fled leaving behind their bike and one hand bag with some documents containing the names of people paying extortion money to the insurgent outfit was recovered, she said.
Police launched a search operation for the fleeing militants, the SP added.
