A top leader of banned terrorist group NDFB(S) was arrested today from Chirang district in Assam by a joint team of the Army and the police.
"Based on accurate intelligence, a top member of the NDFB(S) central council was apprehended from Tukrajhar, Chirang district, in a joint operation by the Army and Assam Police," a Defence spokesperson said in a statement.
The leader was identified as Sumanta Basumatary alias B Sinaihang, he said.
Trained in Bhutan, the militant was entrusted with coordinating terrorist activities, internal discipline, media interaction and propaganda.
The official said that the arrest and past operations against the outfit had "substantially degraded NDFB(S) capabilities in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts".
