Alongside proposing its new outdoor advertisement policy, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) today decided to crack the whip against illegal ads in its area and set a deadline of 15 days for their complete removal.
NDMC Mayor Ravinder Gupta held discussion with a group of advertisers and also sought suggestions from them to improve the situation.
The Mayor said modes of outdoor advertising would be divided into 36 clusters to regulate business, eliminate corruption, improve the quality of advertisements, beautify the city and augment the revenue to improve the financial conditions of the cash-strapped corporation.
"Under the scheme, the new advertisement sites would also be created in respective zones, parks and even on streetlight poles. The advertisers would also be given the powers to remove the illegal advertisements. The scheme under finalisation would be well within the guidelines of the Supreme Court," a senior official if the NDMC said.
The Mayor, meanwhile also directed the officials concerned to identify and "remove all outdoor illegal advertisements within 15 days".
Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj, Commissioner Praveen Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner Renu Jagdev and Deputy Commissioner (Advertisement) Dharmender Kumar were also present during the meeting.
Giving details about the policy, the Commissioner said the distribution of 36 clusters in the six zones would be - Sadar Paharganj (6), Civil Lines (10), Karol Bagh (6), Rohini (7), Narela (5) and City (2).
