The North East Students Organisation (NESO) today urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to urgently intervene to stop frequent attacks on the people of the region in different parts of the country and ensure their security.
In a memorandum, NESO chairman Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said incidents of assaults and molestations of the people belonging to the Northeast were happening on a frequent basis resulting in a feeling of insecurity, especially among women.
"Our humble submission is for your urgent intervention with the concerned state governments of Karnataka and Haryana and do the needful for effective measures to be taken by the appropriate authorities which could give mental, social and physical security to the students and people of the Northeast studying and residing in Delhi and other parts of India," the NESO told the Home Minister.
The students body said although such incidents have been vehemently denounced by the government at different levels, the Northeast communities continue to suffer shock and panic as unabated attack and assault continues against them.
Three students from Manipur were assaulted by locals in Bangalore on Tuesday night, while three other youths were brutally attacked in Gurgaon on Wednesday night.
