Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said India needs to focus on livelihood creation for rural youth, even as he underlined the importance of self- respect, self-employment and development opportunities.
Naidu also suggested that large companies should be given a district to adopt and they should impart training to people.
"We need to focus on livelihood creation for rural youth. What is important for India right now is self-respect, self- employment and development," the Vice President said at an event organised by industry body CII and NITI Aayog.
"You cannot stop rural migration, until you provide similar facilities in villages," he added.
Naidu noted that education is the most critical growth enabler for empowerment as well as enlightenment.
"We have to re-orient policies and programmes to suit India's growing population's employment and livelihood needs. We have to give more focus towards specialty training in technical as well as day-to-day household job requirements," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar said job creation should be the collective responsibility of the government as well as the industry.
Minister (IC) of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh said India needs to capitalise on India's growing young population.
NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said the aspirations of young people do not synchronise with the ground realities.
"We cannot copy paste models from different countries and NITI Aayog is working on a model which will be unique to India to make sure that the last young person of the country gets the job that he or she aspires to," Kumar said.
