Aam Aadmi Party, which recently got a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, will expand its presence in other states if Congress fails to strengthen itself, a senior party leader has said.
"This is the right time to strengthen Congress from the base. Unless the party strengthens, AAP will spread its tentacles to other states to fill the anti-BJP vacuum," AICC SC-ST cell convener K Raju said while addressing the party's two-day meeting which began here today.
Raju asked the Congress leaders to go to the masses, particularly in the urban areas, to reconstruct the party.
Terming the AAP's victory in Delhi as "concerning", he said, "Congress leaders will have to work to reach out to the labourers in unorganised sector, domestic workers, youth and intellectuals to strengthen the party."
During the two-day meeting here, a strategy would be prepared to increase the Congress' mass base and to create a vision for the party cadres, he added.
