Rajeev tried to rape the victim (30) when she was sleeping with her children last night. He broke into her house and tried to rape her which she resisted following which Rajeev burnt her alive, they said.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, they added.
The victim's husband works as a rickshaw puller in Haridwar, police said, adding that the accused is absconding and a search is on to nab him.
