Senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse today said that even when he took on governments of the past as an opposition leader, no one from the ruling party ever levelled allegations at him, but now the things are different.
Khadse resigned from the Devendra Fadnavis-led government in Maharashtra last year over corruption charges.
He was speaking after receiving 'lifetime achievement award' for his contribution to politics at an event organised by Jadhavar Group of Institutes. Janata Dal (United) leader K C Tyagi was also present at the event.
"I have been in politics for the last 40 years and while in opposition, I took on the governments of the day and questioned chief ministers on issues like inflation.
"I have seen eight chief ministers, and this is the ninth one. Despite taking the government head-on, none of the leaders (of then ruling parties) levelled allegations against me. But lately the things have started changing, as I faced over 80 allegations in last one year," said Khadse.
There were allegations like his wife spoke to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, he said, adding that inquiries were ordered and the allegations were found to be baseless.
"Having cleared my name, I am waiting for new allegations now," he said.
Had the veteran BJP leader Gopinath Munde been alive, the political scene in the state would have been different, Khadse said.
Khadse, senior-most member of Fadnavis cabinet, resigned after he was accused of purchasing a piece of land in Bhosari near Pune illegally by misusing his official position.
