New device sanitises your cell phone while charging it

A new box-like device that uses UV light to sanitise your cell phone while charging it has been developed.
Mobile phones are known to be breeding grounds for bacteria. Some studies have even suggested that mobile phones carry more germs than a toilet seat.
Entreprenuers Wesley LaPorte and Dan Barnes from Provo, Utah, developed the small box, called 'PhoneSoap' that simultaneously charges and sanitises your cell phone using UV-C light.
UV-C light is electromagnetic radiation that is used in hospitals and clean rooms around the world.
This short wavelength of light penetrates the cell wall of the bacteria and disrupts its DNA, effectively killing it. It is 99.9 per cent effective in killing bacteria and virus, PhoneSoap makers said.

The UV-C light is only on for 3-5 minutes at a time and there is no heat or liquid involved so there is no risk of damaging your phone, they said on 'Kickstarter' website.

There is a UV-C light on the top and on the bottom of the box so that the UV rays surround your phone for complete sanitisation.
The PhoneSoap Charger plugs into a socket and has an internal USB port to which users can connect a charging cable and their phone, which is then closed inside the box, 'Gizmag' reported.
The charger, which costs USD 49.95, features an indicator light to let users know when charging is complete and has acoustic outlets to ensure that alarms and notifications can be heard.
