New meet record created in women's hammer throw

Beating her own record, J Karthika of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women created a new meet record in hammer throw event, by throwing a distance of 48.23 metres in the 34th Bharathiar University Inter Collegiate Athletic meet for men and women, which began here today.
Karthika holds the record of 47.6 metres in the last meet.
While Sunithi of the same college was second by throwing the hammer at 44.19 metres and Keerthana of Bharathiar University Department was third with a 32.34 metres throw.
Soumya Shree of NGP Arts College finished first in 5 KM walk in 32 minutes,18 seconds and Poongodi of Gobi Arts and Science College won the half marathon (10.5 KM) finishing in one hour,39 minutes and 16 seconds.

In the men's category, R Saravana Kumar of Saraswati Thyagaraja College came first in the 20 KM Walk race, covering it in 1 hour 44 min 53.6 seconds.
Shaheerali TM of NGP Arts and Science College was first in Half Marathon finishing in 1 hour 19 min 38 seconds.
By throwing a distance of 37.10 metres, R Hariharan of NGP Arts and Science college was first in Hammer Throw event.
