With the water supply shrinking in the city with the arrival of summer, the Himachal Pradesh government is planning to launch a over 500 crore scheme to ensure regular supply of water to the people in the state capital.
"There is a scheme of Rs 516 crore to uplift the water from Kol Dam over river Sutlej in Shimla district to supply it to the city of Shimla," Urban Development Minister Sudheer Sharma told reporters here.
He said that the proposal have already been sent to the Central government for approval.
"By the commissioning of this project, the city of Shimla will not have any problem pertaining to drinking water for the next 25 years," Sharma said
Similarly, two other drinking water schemes have already been approved, one of Rs 75 crore for Nahan and Rs 21 crore for Dharamsala, where the work shall start soon, the minister informed.
