The National Human Rights Commission today sought reports from Railways and police chiefs of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi in connection with alleged molestation of a girl on board a train between Delhi and Mathura.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the commission has observed that the issue involves safety and security of passengers and asked the Chairman of the Railway Board, DGP of Haryana, DGP of Uttar Pradesh and Police Commissioner of Delhi to submit reports within four weeks.
The NHRC statement said that GRP, Mathura released the accused despite having registered an FIR against them on allegations of molestation and misbehaviour with the girl on board Ferozpur Janta Express.
Not only this, it said, the case was transferred to GRP, Palwal for want of jurisdiction, which, allegedly, was not investigating the case properly and rather helping the accused.
The girl is reportedly undergoing treatment for mental and physical torture at a hospital in Delhi. She and her family members are being threatened by the offenders, who allegedly have a criminal background, said the NHRC statement.
According to the statement, the girl was travelling along her brother from New Delhi to Mathura on August 3, 2012.
Between Kosi Kalan and Palwal Stations, the accused came to her seat and started misbehaving. Her brother rang up the police control room and the GRP, but no help reached them.
Meanwhile, some of the accused got down at Chhata. It was only at Mathura Railway Station that some among them were nabbed by the GRP and an FIR was registered against them. But they too were released later.
