Cyrus, 22, had earlier said in an interview that the 32-year-old "Anaconda" hitmakers's comments about the show's nomination process were not polite, reported Entertainment Weekly.
Minaj took to the stage to accept her award and said, "You know who I want to thank tonight? My pastor. I love you so much. And now, back to this b**** that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley what's good?"
"We're all in this industry. We all do interviews. We all know how they manipulate. Nicki, congratulations," she said.
The "When I Look At You" singer said she lost an award in 2009 but was fine with it and congratulated Minaj.
Moments after her remarks, the rapper tweeted "Lmfaooooooooooooo" with a trio of heart-eye emojis.
According to a source the confrontation was real and not staged.
