The film, which saw director Sam Mendes returning to helm his second 007 movie, grossed USD 880 million worldwide and won the best song Oscar.
The 45-year-old director said he prefers to do small films like "The Neon Demon" instead of taking the reins of a world-renowned franchise.
"I just know this way I can do whatever I want, and that outweighs any money anyone can give me," he told the Telegraph.
Refn was apparently also offered films like "Wonder Woman" and "Barbarella" remake but he turned them down.
