Nifty hits 15-month high, up 94 points

The benchmark Nifty today gained 94.45 points to settle at 8,635.65 following across the spectrum buying in front-line bluchip counters amid hopes of GST Bill passage.
Opening negative and trading in range for brief period, the key indices broke out from its lethargy to recover soon, as investors seen expanding the longs in key frontline shares amid positive sentiment build up over Goods and Services Tax (GST) constitutional amendment bill may be passed in Parliament this week.
Sentiments also bolstered by sustained FII inflows into Indian equities as well as firmer European opening.
The 50-share Nifty resumed lower at 8,519.95 and surged to high of 8,641.15 before closing at 15month high 8,635.65, showing a net rise of 94.45 points, or 1.11 per cent. It was last ended at 8,706.70 on April 16, 2015.
Elsewhere, Asian shares ended narrowly mixed, while European shares were trading higher as worries over the impact of Britain's Brexit vote eased after policymakers from the Group of 20 countries agreed at the weekend to work to support global growth and better share the benefits of trade.
Buying was led by PSU (3.60 pct), Banks (1.60 pct), Media (1.O64 pct), Financials (1.48 pct), Realty (1.48 pct), Pvt Banks (1.36 pct), Energy (1.29 pct), IT (1.07 pct), Infra (0.99 pct), Auto (0.95 pct), FMCG (0.63 pct) and Metal (0.57 pct), Pharma (0.46 pct).
Stockwise the gainers were BHEL (4.54 per cent), Bank of Baroda (3.42 pct), Maruti (3.08 pct), SBIN (2.86 pct) and Asian Paint (2.25 pct), Yes bank (2.25 pct), Sun Pharma (2.21 pct) and HDFC (1.84 pct).
A total 1,078 stocks advanced, 528 declined, while 75 ruled stable.
Turnover in cash segment eased to Rs 21,413.85 crore from Rs 20,438.56 crore last Friday .
A total of 11,614.65 lakh shares changed hands in 84,34,820 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,619,177 crore.
