Nifty snaps 5-day losing streak, up 83 pts

Benchmark Nifty rose 83 points to end at 9,794.15 today on fresh buying from investors on the back of recovery in the global market.
On the macro front, wholesale inflation rose to 1.88 per cent in July as prices of some commodities increased in the first month of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rollout.
India's industrial production in June contracted 0.1 per cent, the lowest reading since June 2013.
The NSE 50-share Nifty rose 83.35 points or 0.86 per cent to end at 9,794.15 after moving in a range of 9,813.30 and 9,752.10. It had dropped by 355.60 points or 3.53 per cent in the previous week.
Nifty Realty rose 5.79 per cent, followed by metal (3.42 per cent), pharma (2.78 per cent), media (2.70 per cent) and auto (1.36 per cent).
Major Nifty gainers were Cipla 5.29 per cent, Sun Pharma 4.84 per cent, Tata Steel 4.52 per cent, Tata Power 3.92 per cent and Hindalco 3.69 per cent.
However, Bosch fell 2.14 per cent, Bharti Airtel 1.45 per cent, HCL Tech 1.40 per cent, BPCL 1.23 per cent and TCS 1.07 per cent.
Overseas, Asian stocks ended higher on bargain hunting after recent losses although broader sentiment was tempered by continued tensions between the United States and North Korea.
A total of 1,379 scrips advanced and 338 declined while 49 remained unchanged.
Total securities that hit their price bands were 145.
Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 23,896.76 crore from Rs 32,925.01 crore on last Friday.
A total of 14,118.23 lakh shares changed hands in 9,013,070 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 12,768,841 crore.
