Former KPCC Secretary Nivedith Alva today took over charge as chairman of the state Coastal Development Authority (CDA) at its office here.
Nivedith is the son of veteran Congress leader Margaret Alva.
Talking to reporters after assuming office, Alva said he was taking up the responsibility given to him by the state government and the Congress party.
"I have got an opportunity to work here though I am from Uttara Kannada," he said, adding that he was already in touch with all the ministers from the coastal districts.
Alva said he would hold discussions with the deputy commissioner and other officials concerned to proceed with the developmental activities.
He said the state government proposed to develop 44 beaches from Mangaluru to Uttara Kannada. The government had written to the Centre to relax the CRZ norms to promote coastal tourism, he said.
J R Lobo, MLA and Mayor Mahabala Maarla, were present on the occasion.
