NMMC announces Rs 1000 reward for citizens who report debris

In a bidto keep Navi Mumbai clean and to prevent haphazard dumping of debris,the Navi Mumbai civic body has announced a Rs 1000 reward for bringing to its notice such practices with actual photographs.
An NMMC (Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation) spokesperson today said anyone who exposes people or vehicles dumping debris or garbage illegally across Navi Mumbai or in non-designated areas will be given a cash award of Rs 1,000.
"The civic body is encouraging people to take photographs of vehicles dumping debris and share them with us. We will not only act against the vehicle owner or the person who dumps it, but will also ensure that the debris will be removed from the spot.
"Once we identify such vehicles by its registration number, we will be able to crack ship on those who are defacing the city and thwarting our efforts to keep the city neat and clean," the spokesperson said, adding that identity of citizens will not be disclosed.
The idea was proposed by NMMC Commissioner N Ramaswamy yesterday.
"In order to implement this novel schemeand to take further action against the persons defacing the city, the respectiveward officers have been appointed as nodal officers," he said.
Alert citizens can share the pictures on our WhatsApp number 8422955912 and report about haphazard dumping of debris, he said, adding that complaints can also be registered on the civic body website www.nmmc.gov.in.
Recently, incidents of dumping debris in mangroves were reported from several places including Palm Beach Road and Ghansoli.
Navi Mumbai was declared as the cleanest city of Maharashtra and adjudged as the eighth cleanest city in India last year.
