No gender discrimination in reservation for CPMT, rules HC

The Allahabad High Court has ruled that there must not be any discrimination on the basis of gender while providing the benefit of reservation to dependents of freedom fighters in the Combined Pre Medical Tests (CPMT) held in Uttar Pradesh.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Dilip Gupta passed the order yesterday on a writ petition filed by Isha Tyagi of Bareilly.
Tyagi claimed that she had been denied reservation on the ground that she was the daughter of a freedom fighter's daughter even though the benefit had been extended to grandsons of those who had taken part in the struggle for independence.

Holding that according to the rules relating to the quota for freedom fighters' dependents, there should be no discrimination among the beneficiaries on the ground of gender.
The court also directed the authorities concerned to consider calling the petitioner for counselling if her documents were found to be valid.
