The government has not accepted a proposal to develop the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), which offer skill education, on the lines of formal schools, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
"The HRD ministry has written to skill development ministry that in case the ITIs want to introduce curricula of bridge courses for the students and give them option of senior and secondary certification through CBSE, they may get affiliated to CBSE as per their bylaws," Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mahendra Nath Pandey said in a written response.
"Trainees in those ITIs can appear in the examinations conducted by CBSE and get secondary and senior secondary level certificates on successfully passing the examinations," he added.
The skill development ministry had approached the HRD ministry with a proposal to remodel ITIs into formal schools to enable ITI graduates to pursue regular courses in other schools and colleges.
