Amidst reports that some Congress MLAs are willing to support BJP if it comes forward to form the government in Delhi, the party today presented all its eight legislators before the media in a bid to put up a united front.
"All our eight MLAs are united. Congress is the oldest political party in the country and there is no question of our MLAs supporting AAP or BJP to form a government in Delhi," DPCC chief Arvinder Singh said at a press conference here.
Singh also said that BJP and AAP were two sides of the same coin and Congress has decided to back neither outfit.
"Instead of supporting BJP or AAP, Congress is ready for fresh elections," Singh said.
BJP insiders had earlier this week said that at least five Congress MLAs were ready to leave the party and support a BJP government.
Including ally Akali Dal's lone MLA, BJP at present has 29 legislators in the Delhi Assembly. It will require the support of five more MLAs to prove its majority in the House.
Meanwhile, Singh also slammed AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for alleging that BJP was trying to buy six Congress MLAs for Rs 20 crore each and said he has now started playing "bad politics".
"Kejriwal only makes allegations. Thereafter, he doesn't prove it as he has no evidence. Kejriwal has started playing bad politics as he knows that Delhiites will teach him a lesson if fresh elections are held," he said.
Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed on the other hand charged that AAP was trying to obtain the support of Congress MLAs in order to form the government for a second time in Delhi after its earlier stint.
"All Congress MLAs are together," Ahmed said.
