Uttar Pradesh Minor Irrigation Minister Raj Kishore Singh today refuted the charge of alleged large scale irregularities in construction of check dams in the state, saying in an inquiry, so far, nothing wrong has been found.
Terming it a conspiracy to tarnish the government's image, he said, some people were feeding misleading information to the media.
"It is being said that there were irregularities to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore which is totally wrong. In last fiscals 679 check dams were constructed with a total cost of Rs 183.34 crore," Singh told reporters.
"The department's annual budget is of Rs 350 crore only. Some people fed misleading information to media," he said without identifying them.
Singh said, of the 679 dams constructed in the state, inquiry report of 504 has been received and no wrongdoing has been detected.
The minister further added report regarding remaining check dams has been sought from the respective district magistrates within 15 days.
"An inquiry was being conducted at a large scale and if any irregularity was detected, then action would be taken against the guilty," the minister said.
Controversy errupted after another minister in Akhilesh Yadav government, Shivakant Ojha had filed a complaint regarding irregularities in construction of check dams in Pratapgarh district.
