The killing triggered protest by residents who blocked traffic on the Noida-Dadri road at Bhangel for over two hours.
Sajan Bhati was attacked when he was returning home in his car last evening.
Police said the assailants, travelling in two cars, waylaid him and sprayed bullets on him, before speeding away.
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Sajan was an accused in a three-year-old murder case, police said.
