Normal life in Nagaland was brought to a grinding halt today in the state-wide bandh called to protest against the government's decision to go ahead with the February 1 election to urban local bodies (ULBs).
There was, however, no report of any untoward incident from any part of the state.
The bandh was called by Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and supported by different tribal organisations.
The JCC, which comprises of apex tribal organisations in the state, had appealed to the state Government to defer or postpone the polls saying that the provision for 33 per cent reservation for women would infringe on the special rights of the Naga people as guaranteed by Article 371(A) of the Constitution.
In the commercial hub of Dimapur, the bandh was in force frrom 6 AM to 6 PM.
In Kohima, the shutdown was enforced by the Angami Youth Organisation along with volunteers from its federating units and different colonies and wards from 9 AM to 4 PM.
JCC sources said the bandh would resume on Monday.
Tomorrow being a Sunday, the bandh would be relaxed for people to attend the Church services.
