Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd today commissioned a grid sub-station in the Model Town area of North Delhi with the discom saying it was the first such facility in the country with "dry transformer" technology.
The facility, built at a cost of Rs 16 crore, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
"The sub-station is equipped with the next generation power distribution technology. It is not only environment friendly, but also adheres to the highest safety standards," Dikshit said.
The discom said the sub-station was expected to improve power supply to over 80,000 customers in the Model Town and Azadpur areas.
"The sub-station is equipped with the dry-type power transformers of 20MVA, used for the first time in India," the company said.
The dry transformer technology will ensure quality power supply, it added.
Speaking on the occasion, TPDDL CEO Praveer Sinha said the company was committed to providing the best service to its customers.
"This sub-station is a giant leap in this direction. It will further strengthen our resolve of N-1 power supply, meaning a technical problem or overloading at one place should not affect supply in other areas," he said.
