People living in north Delhi can now register complaints about rectification of faulty street lights in their areas directly to the NDMC through its 24x7 helpline rather than routing it through power distribution companies.
Complaints regarding rectification of faulty street lights can be made to zonal control rooms or electrical divisional offices of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation through its 24x7 helpline, North Delhi Mayor Yogendra Chandolia said today.
The complaints earlier had to made through power distribution companies (discoms), NDMC said in a statement.
"The complaints will immediately be forwarded to the discom concerned for taking prompt action. The NDMC will act as a mediator in facilitating as early as possible, the rectification of faulty street lights," Chandolia said.
Citizens can also post complaints online by sending emails to the electrical divisional office in their respective zones, he said.
NDMC commissioner Praveen Gupta said the municipal body has in its areas -- 1,64,118 street lights, 13,924 semi-high mast lights and 12,246 park lights -- which are maintained by its electrical engineering department.
The number of street lights or semi-high mast lights maintained by three discoms in the NDMC areas are --- TPDDL (1,19,256), BYPL (23,288) and BRPL (21,574).
The corporation pays discoms at the rate of Rs 103 per point as maintenance charges and Rs 6.40 per KWH as energy consumption charges, the NDMC said.
"The ATR (action taken report) provided by the discoms concerned will also be forwarded to the complainants concerned. However, as a long-term measure for proper function of street lights, the corporation will use GPRS application-based monitoring system," Gupta said.
