A new 'banana-inspired' mug that promises to get rid of coffee rings on the table has been developed.
The Floating Mug comes with a built-in coaster and the idea came to the inventors after they spotted bananas hanging on a hook.
The handle of the mug bends round underneath to form a coaster to collect any drips.
The mug took months of hard work by Dumi Ndlovu, a financial analyst, and Tigere Chiriga, a postal worker, both 34, who grew up together in Zimbabwe,'The Times' reported.
The action of sipping a beverage, multiple times, from a single point on the mouth of a mug, results in a slight drip of moisture which can cause moisture stains on furniture.
The new design works exceptionally well to control the flow of this moisture by raising the mug off the furniture; letting the drip slide under the mug.
The moisture simply clings to the bottom of the mug, which means it will not accumulate to levels that can overflow into your lap, its makers claim.
"Tigere drinks a lot of tea but was terrible at putting coasters under his mugs and so kept leaving stains on the furniture," Ndlovu, who lives in Reading in England, said.
"One day he was looking at a banana hook and the inspiration came to him. We turned to crowdfunding and within days of listing the project it had received almost 25,000 pounds," he said.
"It may be a bit of a novelty item at the moment but the plan is to get it into every household," he said.
The mug is available for 22 pounds.
