Now seems right to enter India market: Celebrity designer MAWI

Manipur-born accessory designer based in London Mawi Keivom, whose works have been sported by top celebrites across the world has now tied up with a fashion e-store based in India.
Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukaone as well as global celebs such as Rihanna and Selena among others have been spotted wearing the designer.
In her recent collaboration, Mawi has teamed up with online Indo-British store Koovs to create 'MAWI x KOOVS' an exclusive line of jewellery, bags and T shirts.
"For a while my focus was first about setting foot in London laying the groundwork and doing more international stuff. Now we have become an established global name and I am amazed at the huge fan base in India. It seems like a right time to enter the market here," says Mawi who was on a visit here recently.

The designer who specialises in creating "timeless vintage-inspired pieces" also visited Mumbai, where she had earlier this year debuted at the Lakme Fashion Week, over 12 years after she set up her eponymous named label.
Mawi says she likes to create timeless fashion forward classics. "We take something that is vintage inspired and put our own spin on it to make the vintage and the contemporary worlds meet."

Gemstones, crystals, sparkle, skulls, spikes and studs feature predominantly in Mawi's collections that are architectral and industrial based in cubist shapes.
She admits that fashion is "forever changing, always seeking new materials and new ways of expressing traditional materials."

"We work with classic traditional elements, crystals, gems precious stones etc. It is how you interpret them that makes a difference," says the designer.
For her recent collaboration with Indo-British website, Mawi says she has focussed on the young college going crowd.
"This has come at a right time because our products were not widely availaible here. It offers us a bigger platform to reach the younger audience without compromising on the quality" says the designer.
