Opposition National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya today demanded that the Meghalaya immediately release Rs 267.40 crore sanctioned by the Centre to the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the state.
NPP president and newly elected MP Conrad K Sangma, said, "It has been five months, yet the state government is not releasing the amount meant for development of the ADCs."
"We demand that the state government immediately release the money along with five-month interest due to the ADCs," he said.
The Centre had in February sanctioned Rs 1000 crore 'special assistance grant' for the upkeep of tribal councils in Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Assam.
Of the Rs 1000 crore, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council in Meghalaya will be receiving Rs 133.12 crore, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Rs 100.71 crore and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council Rs 33.57 crore.
