A 46-year-old Non Resident Indian (NRI) was found dead in the room of a hotel at nearby Goraya town, police said today.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Surjit Singh, a native of Uchapind village of Phagwara Block, who was settled in Italy.

They said that Singh had checked in the hotel at 11 am yesterday and was found dead barely five hours later by the hotel staff.

The NRI had come to his native village about a month back in connection with settling his agricultural land matters, they said.

A case will be registered after recording statement of NRIs family on their arrival from Italy and receiving post-mortem report, the police official said.

While not suspecting any foul play, the SHO, however, said that police were investigating the case from various angles.
