NSSO provides timely, relevant picture of economy: Mehra

The primary aim of National Sample Survey Organisation is to provide relevant and timely picture of the country's economy and society to support formulation of economic and social policies, organisation's chief Ajay Mehra said here today.
Mehra, NSSO Director General, was speaking at a symposium on agricultural statistics at the 102nd Indian Science Congress here.
Mehra also spoke about data users, assessment of national statistical system, statistical legislation, historical background and important milestones in NSSO journey.
NSSO identifies core statistics of national importance, he said. He also spoke about constitutional provision, district offices and statistics laws in India.
Prajneshu, emeritus scientist with the Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics, spoke about procedure for computation of compounded growth rate.
Agriculture without statistics has no roots and statistics without agriculture has no fruits, he said.
