"The boy who was a student of a primary school run by SDMC today died after he drowned in the septic tank of the school. We have registered a case and an investigation has been initiated," said a senior police officer.
The incident took place around 11.45 AM when nursery student Ankit fell inside the septic tank which was open, police said.
Some labourers who were working nearby the school later fished out the boy from the tank and informed the police.
"A case of negligence has been registered and the body was sent for autopsy. We are taking statements of the eye- witnesses as well as the school officials and parents of the boy," he added.
A senior municipal officer said that an enquiry by Additional Commissioner (education) of SDMC Rajesh Pathak has been ordered in the incident.
