OBC leader Alpesh Thakor today announced to sit on an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhinagar in November to put pressure on Gujarat government over various issues, including strict implementation of liquor prohibition in the state.
Thakor said he would launch the strike with thousands of his supporters from November 6 at Satyagrah Chhavni in the state capital.
Apart from the hunger strike, Thakor also announced to do a gherao of Legislative Assembly complex till the government comes up with clear policies to tackle various issues touching people's lives.
"To raise our demands, thousands will converge at Gandhinagar on November 6. We will not only sit on hunger strike, but also do gherao of Assembly. We will not end our fast till government gives us a definitive assurance," said Thakor, president of OBC-SC-ST Ekta Manch as well as Kshatriya Thakor Sena.
Apart from dealing with illegal liquor sale, Thakor wants the government to come up with clear policies regarding the allocation of sufficient irrigation water to farmers, better education for poor citizens and better employment opportunities for locals in industries.
"This mass agitation is not a one-day affair, as we will not leave Gandhinagar until the government announces clear policies to deal with these issues. We expect more than 15 lakh people from all over the state would converge at Gandhinagar on November 6," said Thakor.
