Odia actor Debu Bose passes away

Odia film and theatre personality Rathindra Nath Bose, popularly known as Debu Bose, passed away in a Hyderabad hospital, family sources said here today.

He was 75 and is survived by wife and two sons.

Bose had earlier survived two heart attacks and was undergoing treatment in Hyderabad where he died last night.

Preparations are on to bring his body to Bhubaneswar, where his last rites would be performed tomorrow.

Born on December 2, 1942, Bose joined in government services after completing his MA from JNU and went on to serve as the general manager (GM) of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

When he was young, he had learnt Odissi classical dance from Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Mayadhar Rout. he had also acted and directed several plays.

Bose started his cinema career as a villain in Nagen Ray's 'Tapasya' in early 1980s.

Till his last film 'Raasta (2014), Bose acted in over 150 films and in most of them he had played the role of a father to almost all the young Odia cine stars of the present generation.

Apart from acting in several Bengali films, Bose had also acted in a Hindi movie 'Ashraya' directed by Biplav Raychoudhury.
