The Odisha government today decided to intensify its anti-Maoist operation in the worst LWE affected areas of the state.
The decision was taken during a unified command meet here held under the chairmanship of state Chief Secretary A P Padhi.
Besides the Director General of Police (DGP), senior officers of central forces like the CRPF and the BSF, Director of Intelligence, IG (Operations) and others attended the meeting.
"Among other issues, we discussed the development of infrastructure in police stations, road and bridge connectivity in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-hit areas, intensifying joint operations against Maoists, deployment of force and sharing of information between states at the unified command meeting," DGP, Odisha K B Singh told reporters after the meeting.
"During the last four months, a lot of improvement in infrastructure has been done, specially in terms of logistics in police camps," Chief Secretary Padhi said.
Barring the Sunki Ghat blast incident, there has been noticeable decline in Maoist violence and incidents, he said adding, the recently concluded panchayat elections were comparatively peaceful in LWE-hit areas than the previous rural polls in 2012.
"The Gurupriya Bridge connecting the cut-off area in Malkangiri district, would be completed soon. This will improve connectivity to far flung areas and will also be helpful in carrying out operations," Padhi said.
