Officials arrested for alleged cheating and misappropriation

A police sub-inspector as well as a clerk attached to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) were arrested for alleged cheating as well as misappropriation, and both of them have been remanded to police custody until October 6, it was officially announced here today.
They have been identified as police sub-inspector Balaji Shelge and clerk Ashok Benjani, a police official said.
A case of large scale cheating by some contractors in the supply and construction work belonging to the SP's office came to light a few days ago and an offence was registered against them, after which they were arrested, a police official said.

Allegedly, these contractors used to take huge amounts of money from the SP's office by claiming bogus bills, the police official said.
A probe revealed that police sub-inspector Shelge and clerk Benjani were involved in the offence after which both of them were arrested yesterday and produced before a magistrate, who remanded them to police custody until October 6.
Further investigations are on, the police official said.
